Sam was born on 21 March 1986 and has an older brother Paul (currently in his own band Stylus).

In 1999/2000 Sam created a band named Fareview with some of his friends. Fareview wrote and recorded some tracks as demos these included the 3 tracks that can be found on our site - "Stay forever more", "You're gone so far away" and "What do we have to fight".

September 2003 saw Sam competing in the second series of Pop Idol - a show that was to change his life forever. During the auditions Sam met Mark Rhodes and together they formed a friendship that endeared them to the public. Sam sadly failed to go through his heat due to very strong competition to make the top 10 - however this series of Pop Idol had a twist - 2 wildcard entries were to be awarded to people who had not made the final 10. This site campaigned strongly for Sam during this period by contacting press, television, radio stations and anyone else who would listen - infact we campaigned so well that Neil Fox one of the judges said he thought Sam had a syndicate backing him! Our campaign helped raise Sam's profile and when he delivered another outstanding performance on the wildcard show he secured the judges wildcard position to continue in the competition.

During the competition Sam's consistant high performaces over the weeks and different styles won rave reviews from judges, critics and earned him many thousands of fans. It was evident to all that performing music was Sam's dream and passion, and even when he received criticism he took it on board in order to improve. It was a great shock to many people when Sam was voted off in 3rd position in December 2003, however Sam took it well - stating that he hoped it wouldn't be the last we saw of him.

He was not out of the public eye for long, on 9 January 2004 he teamed with Mark Rhodes and the new duo was presented to the public on Top of the Pops. Sam and Mark sang "With a little help from my friends" - a song which reached number 1 as a double "A" side with "Measure of a man" on 16 February 2004.

During March 2004 Sam performed with the top 10 Pop Idol finalists on their arena tour of the UK. Sam's performances won standing ovations and rave reviews from critics - many declared him as the real winner of Pop Idol.

Sam and Mark released a second single "The sun has come your way" on 24 May 2004 which also reached the top 20.

July 2004 saw Sam and Mark begin their presenting career with short stints on TOTP Saturday. They proved popular with viewers and BBC crew alike and in September they joined as full time co-presenters with Fearne Cotton.

A revamp of the show in September 2005 saw the name change to TOTP reloaded, and the style of the show change from prerecorded segments to a more "live" feel. This gave the show a more grown up image and focused the show more on music performances - which proved successful with both viewers and critics.

April 2006 saw the end of the TOTP series, however there was little chance of a break for Sam and Mark - less than a fortnight after the end of TOTP reloaded they began co-presenting the daily show "Level Up" with Ayesha Asantewaa. This presented Sam and Mark with their first experience of "live" presenting, and they proved very successful at it - coping well when things went wrong.

On the 16 September Sam and Mark launched a new Saturday morning flagship show with co-presenter Caroline Flack. TMi (too much information) is a "live" show recorded in the studios at Leicester Square involves members of the public, and also has Sam and Mark living in a flat being watched by webcameras 24 hours a day while they prepare for the following weeks show. This new concept for Saturday morning TV is proving to be very successful with thousands of viewers visiting the TMi website to view the latest footage.

As a site www.sam-the-man.com has supported Sam Nixon all the way from Pop Idol in 2003 and will continue to do so as his career flourishes even if we did have to rename to www.sam-the-man.org.uk due to continuous hacking attacks.
